Abstract


DO THE CAREER OBSTACLES WHICH WOMEN EMPLOYEES ENCOUNTER IN THE WORKPLACES AFFECT THEIR PERFORMANCE AND ORGANIZATIONAL IDENTIFICATION LEVEL? A FIELD STUDY

In this study, it is aimed to determine the level of career barriers faced by female employees in their workplaces and their performance and organizational identification. For this purpose, the data obtained from the questionnaires applied to 150 female employees working in the branches of both public and private banks operating in the banking sector in Konya were analyzed. In the questionnaires, Karaca (2007)’s scale as career barriers scale; the scale developed by Ashforth and Mael (1989) and re-validated by Polat (2009) and the scale developed by Kirkman and Rosen (1999) and adapted to Turkish by Gürbüz et al. (2010) were used. Frequency, correlation and regression analyzes were performed in accordance with the purpose and scope of the research. In addition, the validity of the factors in the scales was tested by factor analysis and their reliability was calculated with the help of cronbach alpha value. As a result of the research, the effect of career barriers on performance (71%) and the effect of organizational identification on career barriers (83%) were found to be statistically significant.
