Abstract


EXAMİNATİON OF THE RELATİONSHİP BETWEEN SOCİODEMOGRAPHİC ATTRİBUTES AND PEER BULLYİNG BEHAVİOR OF SECONDARY SCHOOL CHİLDREN

ABSTRACT The aim of this research is to examine the relationship between the prevalence of peer bullying and peer victimization and sociodemographic attributes among secondary school students. The sample of the study consisted of 5 randomly selected state secondary school students in Üsküdar, Ümraniye and Kadıköy districts of İstanbul. The study was carried out on 937 (434 female, 503 male) secondary school students attending 6th, 7th and 8th grade. In the research, “Peer Bullying Scale Adolescent Form” (Ayas and Pişkin, 2015) was used to determine the prevalence of peer bullying and peer victimization. Sociodemographic Form prepared by the researcher was used to determine the sociodemographic characteristics. As a result of the goal-directed analyzes, the prevalence of peer bullying has differed from statistically significantly according to age, success, psychiatric diagnosis and treatment, regular social activity, parents’ survival and class level. The findings were discussed within the framework of the relevant literature.
