Abstract


THE STUDY OF BEHAVIOURAL PROBLEMS OF CHILDREN BETWEEN AGES 7-10 WITH DIVORCED PARENTS

Description: This study aims to analyse the relationships between behavioral problems and sociodemographic variables in divorced children aged 7-10 years. In addition, the sociodemographic characteristics of the families are analyzed as the problems that are grouped as behavioral problems, emotional problems, ADHD, peer problems and social behavior problems. It is also aimed to examine the differences between the children with divorced parents by examining the possible effects of sociodemographic characteristics of families on behavioral problems. Methodology: The data were collected from the primary schools in Gaziosmanpaşa, Ümraniye and Ataşehir districts of Istanbul. 111 children aged 7-10 years whose parents divorced; A total of 222 children, including 111 children whose parents are not divorced, constitute the sample of this study. To analyse and evaluate the behavioural problems, Turkish Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaires (SDQ/GGA) and teacher questionnaires were used. To analyse the effects of other related parameters, personal/demographic questionnaires were provided for parents. Findings: Independent Samples T-Tests were used for comparison of questionnaire scores and Levene's test were used for sub-dimension analysis. As a result of the analysis, it was found that there was a statistically significant difference in the proportion of children who were raised in divorced and non-divorced families.
