Abstract


THE EFFECT OF NEPOTISM ON ORGANIZATIONAL CYNICISM: A STUDY IN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN ISTANBUL

The aim of the research is to determine the effect of the nepotist behaviors of managers in educational institutions on the levels of organizational cynicism of other employees. The research was carried out in Istanbul (European side) with 358 participants in institutions providing high school education. Questionnaire technique is used as data collection method. In the research, convience sampling technique was used. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS 22 package program. As a result of the research, it has been determined that nepotism in coordination and control processes increases the level of cognitive cynicism, affective cynicism and behavioral cynicism. The analysis techniques used in the research were made with the “normal distribution assumption”. The measurement tool for nepotism is measured on the basis of administrative functions. Therefore, no conclusions have been reached regarding nepotism. Similar studies in the literature examine the nepotic behaviors of administrators towards teachers (vertical hierarchy). These research differs from similar studies because managers are taken in the sampling.
