Abstract


ACTIVITIES AIMING TO PROMOTE PERFORMANCE ART THROUGH RECREATION OF PAINTINGS IN VISUAL ARTS EDUCATION IN VARIOUS GRADES AND SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT TURKEY

In today's rapidly globalizing world every society is affected by globalization in communal, economical and political events with art also having its fair share. With its foundations laid in 1950s performance art continued its rapid expansion after 1960s and spread through world with social, cultural and political events. Along with advances in technology and means of communication performance art also, in conjunction with various disciplines of arts, has welcomed the novelty. An increasing interest for performance art in recent years can be observed in Turkey just like the rest of the world. Especially in the visual arts education, a connection with performance art is attempted to be established in order to help individuals express themselves better and harmonize in society and also to improve their aesthetic sense. This article handles recreation of paintings of world-renowned artists and Turkish artists by students of various schools throughout Turkey in visual arts education classes between years 2018-2020. It is studied in visual arts education classes in Uludağ University Faculty of Education Fine Arts Education Department of Visual Arts Education, Bitlis/Tatvan Van Gölü Secondary School, Bilecik 15 Temmuz Şehitler Anatolian High School, Konya Mehmet Akif İnan Anatolian High School, İzmir Bornova Şehit Polis Mehmet Çelik Secondary School, Samsun Terme Nazmiye Ünal Soğancı Secondary School whether there had been live exhibition of this kind in Turkey or Europe and what differences or similarities can be found. With live performance art it is aimed to bring a new perspective on artists influencial throughout art history. Furthermore, activities stemming from performance art are observed to be remarkably instructive by audience and performers. Relations between performance art, artist's body, audience and artwork is examined in an interdisciplinary frame. In this study amongst qualitative research methods case method and observation method are used.
