Abstract


THE EFFECT OF NURSES' PERCEPTION OF PROFESSIONAL NURSING VALUE ON OLDER ADULTS PATIENT CARE

This descriptive study was conducted designed to evaluate the professional values and aim of determining the effect of this on older adults patient care.The study was performed between 01 October and 01 November 2019 in Yozgat Training and Research Hospital, in Yozgat Province. A total of 207 nurse who were not on leave during the study period were included. The participation rate was 93%. The ‘Nursing Introductory Form’ and ‘Nursing Professional Values Scale-(HPDS)’ were used to collect data. The data were evaluated using the SPSS 22.0 package program with numbers, per- centages, means, t-test, ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis, and Mann Whitney U test analysis. It has been identified that most of the nurses within the study are female, single, young and have bachelor’s degree, living in a nuclear family, not living with an older adult individual and having no children. It has been observed as the findings of the study that the total score of the questionnaire is above average (119,73±19,34) respectively. Among all the measurements, “Autonomy” subscales were found to be on top (12,96±2,50). When the average values of the general and sub-dimensions have been compared with demographic features, it has been identified that there is a statistical significant difference only between the variables of training there has been found no statistical significant correlation between other demographic features and traits about social life. In our study, it was concluded that the general opinion of the nurses with high professional values about the older adults patient is positive.
