Abstract

THE EFFECTS OF RENEWABLE ENERGY AND CARBON DIOXIDE (CO2) EMISSIONS ON GROWTH: THE CASE OF MENA COUNTRIES

MENA countries are very rich in fossil fuel resources. Recently, renewable energy has come to the fore as an alternative energy source to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. These countries, which are rich in energy resources, they are observed in ensuring sustainability. Therefore, the study examines the relationship between economic growth, renewable energy consumption and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of 11 MENA countries between 1992 and 2014. Panel data analysis method was used in the study. Therefore Pedroni applied cointegration test and Pedroni FMOLS and DOLS methods were used to estimate long-term coefficients. The direction of the variables was determined by Dumitrescu Hurlin panel granger causality analysis. One-way relationship was found between the variables of the analysis result.
