Abstract


INVESTIGATION OF PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENTS' READING HABITS IN TERMS OF VARIOUS VARIABLES

One of the most basic skills that children want to acquire is reading skill. After the acquisition of reading skill, maintaining the continuity of this skill and continuing it throughout life is of great importance in reading habits. Many variables are determinant in the acquisition of this habit. With this research, it was aimed to determine the reading habits of primary school students. At the same time, it was examined whether students' attitudes differ according to gender, class level, socioeconomic level, education level of the mother and education level of the father. This research was designed in accordance with the survey study model, which is one of the quantitative research methods. The research data were collected using the "Reading Habits Scale for Primary School Students" and SPSS 22 package program was used in the analysis of the data. "Independent groups t-test" was used in paired cluster comparisons, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used for comparisons of more than two groups, and Welch test was used in cases where variances were not equal. As a result of the research, it was concluded that the reading habits of primary school students did not differ according to the grade level, socioeconomic level, education level of the mother and the education level of the father, while the reading habits of male students were more positive than female students in the gender variable.
