Abstract


PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHER CANDIDATES’ OPINIONS ON FARABI STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM

Farabi program includes the exchange of students and faculty members among higher education institutions in Turkey. The objectives of the program are defined as having the opportunity of higher education students to receive education from any university in the country, express themselves in different fields, gain versatile and analytical comparative perspectives, gain different experiences, get to know new places and people, and make academic collaborations. The purpose of this study is to determine the satisfaction levels and opinions of the classroom teacher candidates about the Farabi exchange program, which is the domestic exchange program. The descriptive survey model was used in this study. Participants of the study consist of 54 primary school teacher candidates from different universities coming to a state university in Ankara. The quantitative data were collected from primary school teacher candidates using a "satisfaction questionnaire". In addition, a focus group meeting was held to obtain the opinions of the primary school teacher candidates and to detail them. Research findings showed that primary school teacher candidates were moderately satisfied in Farabi Student Exchange Program. The results of the satisfaction survey and the focus group interview (qualitative) results support each other.It was revealed that the highest rate of dissatisfaction (39%) belongs to academic counseling and guidance services.
