Abstract

DETERMINING OPEN LEADERSHIP CHARACTERISTICS OF SPORTS CLUB MANAGERS

The purpose of this research is to determine the social media-based "Open Leadership" characteristics of 10 (16.4%) female and 51 (83.6%) male managers who are managers of Sports Clubs located in Beylikdüzü district of Istanbul province. Developed by Polat and Arabacı (2016) as a valid and reliable measuring tool, the “Open Leadership Scale'' is a Likert-type measurement tool, consisting of 23 items and 3 sub-dimensions (APCS: Acceptance of Power and Continuous Sharing; SCA: Supporting Curiosity and Accountability; EUSN: Effective Use of Social Networks). The study, consisting of 23 questions in total, was applied to sports club managers face to face, and then compared with the variables of demographic characteristics: gender, educational status and educational status. When the Open Leadership Scale was examined in terms of gender variability, no statistically significant difference was found between male and female managers in the sub-dimensions of APCS, SCA and EUSN. When the Open Leadership scale is examined in terms of educational status variability, (63.9% associate degree-bachelor degree, 26.2% high school degree, 6.6% post-graduate degree, 3.3% secondary school degree), in the sub-dimensions of APCS, SCA and EUSN, no statistically significant difference was found among managers. When the Open Leadership scale was examined in terms of income status (73.8% had 1-10000 TL income status, 26.2% 10001-20000 TL), no statistically significant difference was found among the managers in the sub-dimensions of APCS, SCA and EUSN.
