Abstract

AN INVESTIGATION OF THE FACTOR STRUCTURE OF THE A POTENTIAL LEADERSHIP ATTRIBUTES SCALE

The present study aimed to examine the factor structure and other structural properties of the A Potential Leadership Attributes Scale-15. In this respect, different factor solutions were tested for the scale. A total of 1301 people, 617 male and 684 female, ranging in age between 18-70 years, participated in this study. Participants answered A Potential Leadership Attributes Scale-15. Items of the scale were tested for one, two, and three factor solutions, using both exploratory and confirmatory analyses. It was found that the scale explained 31.495% of the total variance with single factor solution, 39.706% of the total variance with two-factor solution and 46.504% of the total variance with three-factor solution. Results of the confirmatory analysis showed good fit on each model. However, the three-factor solution yielded a reasonably better fit to the data. Therefore, it was decided that the scale consists of three factors. Extracted factors were labeled, “Dominance”, “Assertiveness” and “Interaction”. The internal consistency reliability coefficients were calculated as 0.841 for the total score of the scale, 0.755 for the Dominance sub-dimension, 0.667 for the Assertiveness sub-dimension, and 0.648 for the Interaction sub-dimension. There were significant differences between the income status groups in terms of the total score of the scale. In addition, differences were determined between the students, employees and housewives in terms of the sub-dimension scores. There were no differences found between gender, age, marital status, and educational status groups. Results were discussed in line with the related literature.
