Abstract
Bu araştırmanın amacı, velilerin özel okulları tercih etme nedenlerini ortaya koymaktır. Araştırma nitel araştırma çerçevesinde olgu-bilim deseninden yararlanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubu amaçlı örneklem yöntemi kapsamında kolay ulaşılabilir örneklem tekniği ile oluşturulmuş ve Amasya ili Merzifon ilçesinde yer alan bir özel öğretim kurumundaki 10 veliden meydana gelmektedir. Araştırmada elde edilen veriler araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen yarı-yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler betimsel analiz yöntemiyle çözümlenmiştir. Araştırmacılar, velilerin özel okul tercih etme sebeplerini akademik başarı, sosyal ve sportif faaliyetler, güvenli olması, okul binasının donanımı, güvenlik ve hijyen, dinamik ve genç kadro olarak bulmuşlardır. Araştırmacılar bulgulardan hareketle velilerin istekleri karşılanmalı, somut çözüm yolları bulunmalı, okul imkanları etkili kullanılmalı ve oluşabilecek sorunlar önceden öngörülüp çözüm bulunmalı gibi önerilerde bulunmuşlardır.

Abstract
The purpose of this research is to reveal the reasons why parents prefer private schools. The research was carried out using the phenomenology design within the framework of qualitative research. The study group of the research was formed with the easily accessible sampling technique within the scope of the purposeful sampling method and consists of 10 parents in a private educational institution located in the Merzifon district of Amasya province. The data obtained in the study were collected using a semi-structured interview form developed by the researchers. The obtained data were analyzed by descriptive analysis method. The researchers found that the reasons parents prefer private schools are academic success, social and sports activities, safety, equipment of the school building, safety and hygiene, dynamic and young staff. Based on the findings, the researchers made suggestions such as parents' wishes should be met, concrete solutions should be found, school facilities should be used effectively and problems that may arise should be foreseen and solved in advance.
