Abstract
Bu araştırmanın amacı, sosyolojik bir olgu olarak turizmin gelişimini tarihsel geçmişi çerçevesinde irdeleyebilmektir. Aynı zamanda, turizm gelişim sürecinde dünyanın içinde bulunduğu sosyo-ekonomik ve psiko-sosyal durumunun da turizmin ortaya çıkışındaki rolü incelenmeye çalışılmıştır. Araştırma ikincil kaynaklardan yararlanılarak kuramsal olarak hazırlanmıştır. Araştırma kapsamında, tarih öncesi ve tarihi devirlerde turizmin gelişimi ile bu dönemlerdeki turizm motifleri aktarılmaya çalışılmış, turizmin sosyolojik olarak bir olgu haline gelmesinde etkili olan değişkenler ortaya konulmuştur. Bu bağlamda özellikle Mısır, Yunan ve Roma uygarlıklarının turizmin günümüzdeki formuna kavuşmasına önemli katkılar yaptığı belirlenmiştir. Bunun yanı sıra ortaçağda turizm hareketlerinde bir gerileme olduğu görülmüştür. Yakınçağda Sanayi Devriminin yaşanması ve bunun toplumsal yaşamda ortaya koyduğu etkilerle modern turizm hareketlerinin başlamasına zemin hazırlamıştır. Tüm bu çerçevede turizm sosyolojik bir olgu haline gelmiş ve bilimsel bir disiplin olarak incelenmeye başlamıştır.

Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the development of tourism as a sociological phenomenon within the framework of its historical background. At the same time, the role of the socio-economic and psycho-social situation of the world in the development of tourism has been tried to be examined. The research was prepared theoretically by using secondary sources. Within the scope of the research, the development of tourism in prehistoric and historical periods and tourism motifs in these periods were tried to be conveyed and the variables that were effective in making tourism a sociological phenomenon were put forward. In this context, it was determined that especially Egypt, Greek and Roman civilizations made important contributions to the present form of tourism. In addition, there was a decline in tourism movements in the Middle Ages. It has prepared the ground for the beginning of modern tourism movements with the experience of Industrial Revolution in the modern era and the effects it has in social life. In this context, tourism has become a sociological phenomenon and started to be studied as a scientific discipline.
