Abstract
Avrupa’da coğrafyanın tarih zerindeki etkisini araştıran çalışmalar bizden daha erken başlamasına rağmen son dönemlerde ülkemizde de bu konudaki çalışmalar ilgi görmeye başlamıştır. Anadolu’nun geneli ile ilgili yerli ve yabancı araştırmacılar tarafından bazı çalışmalar yapılmış ise de Anadolu’nun tarihi coğrafyasının aydınlatılması için özellikle yerel düzeyde daha detaylı araştırmalara ihtiyaç vardır. Bu ihtiyacın sonucu olarak bu çalışmada Amasya ve yakın çevresinin tarihi coğrafyası ele alınmıştır. Tarih öncesi çağlardan itibaren günümüze kadar kesintisiz olarak yerleşimlere sahne olan, önemli yolların kesişme noktası özelliği gösteren Amasya ili, coğrafi avantajları ve çekiciliği ile daima hakim olunmak istenen bir bölge olup tarih boyunca hep nüfuz mücadelelerine sahne olmasından dolayı çalışma konusu olarak seçilmiştir. Çalışmada Amasya ilinin coğrafi konumu, bu konumun Amasya ve çevresinde tarihi coğrafyanın bileşenleri olarak tarihi süreç içerisinde meydana gelen yerleşimler ve ulaşım ağı, bölgeye yönelik nüfuz mücadeleleri, ortaya çıkan idari oluşumlar üzerindeki durulmuştur. Bu şekilde özelde Amasya ve çevresinin tarihi coğrafyası, genelde ise coğrafyanın tarihi sürece etkisinin ortaya konulması amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma, telif eserler, arşiv belgeleri ve saha çalışmaları ışığında Amasya ve yakın çevresinin tarihi coğrafyası irdelenirken, elde edilen veriler ışığında şehir ve yakın çevresinin coğrafi özelliklerinin tarihi coğrafyasının bileşenleri olan yerleşim, ulaşım ağı ve idari yapılanması üzerinde etkileri analiz edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Çalışma sonunda özellikle antik dönemdeki ulaşım ve yerleşim ağının sonraki dönemler için belirleyici olduğu, etkisini devam ettirdiği görülmüştür.

Abstract
Although the studies investigating the effect of geography on history in Europe started earlier than ours, studies on this subject have started to attract attention in our country recently. Although some studies have been carried out by local and foreign researchers about Anatolia in general, more detailed research is needed, especially on a local basis, to illuminate the historical geography of Anatolia. As a result of this need, the historical geography of Amasya and its surroundings is discussed in this study. The province of Amasya, which has been the scene of uninterrupted settlements since prehistoric times and is an intersection point of important roads, is a region that is always desired to be dominated with its geographical advantages and attractiveness, and has been chosen as the subject of study because it has always been the scene of struggles for influence throughout history. In the study, the geographical location of Amasya province, the settlements and transportation network that occurred in the historical process as components of the historical geography of this location in Amasya and its surroundings, the struggles for influence in the region, and the administrative formations that emerged were emphasized. In this way, it is aimed to reveal the historical geography of Amasya and its surroundings in particular, and the effect of geography on the historical process in general. While examining the historical geography of Amasya and its nearest environment in the light of the study, research works and archive documents, the comparison method was used to reveal the difference between administrative structures. At the end of the study, it was seen that the transportation and settlement network in the ancient period was determinative for the next periods and continued its effect.
