Abstract
Sembol, mitolojilerin şekle dönüşümü ve bu düşüncelerin gelecek kuşaklara aktarılmasında önemli bir taşıyıcı araçtır. Geleneksel el dokumalarımızdan olan halı, motiflerin konusu, onu dokuyan kadının yaşam tarzının bir parçası, onun kültürel yaşamının bir yansıması görünümündedir. Gelenek ve göreneklerin şekillenmiş yansımaları, el dokumalar üzerinde birer motif olarak biçimlendirilmiştir. Bu nedenle, sembolik ifadeler ve bunun neticesi olan sembolik motifler, uzun bir geçmişten günümüze kadar ulaşabilmiş önemli birer mirastır. Anadolu kimliği içerisinde el dokuma yöre ve merkezleri, “sembolik anlam ve anlatımlar” yolculuğumuzun odağını oluşturmaktadır. Bu serüvendeki tarihsel süreç bizleri geleneksel el dokumaları ile Anadolu’nun tam ortasında önemli bir coğrafya olan Niğde Yöresi’ne ulaştırmıştır. Niğde Halılarında tespit edebildiğimiz motiflerin sembolik anlamları, yöre insanından ve çeşitli kaynaklardan öğrenilmeye çalışılmıştır. Bu sembolik ifadeleri üzerinde barındıran el dokumalar yöredeki; ilçe, kasaba, köylerdeki halı pazarları, camiler, tüccarlar, dokuyucular, müzeler, vs. gezilerek alan araştırması kapsamına alınmıştır.

Abstract
Symbol is an important carrier tool in transforming mythologies into shape and transferring these ideas to future generations. The carpet, which is one of our traditional hand-woven fabrics, seems to be the subject of motifs, a part of the lifestyle of the woman weaving it, and a reflection of her cultural life. The shaped reflections of traditions and customs are shaped as motifs on hand-woven fabrics. For this reason, symbolic expressions and the resulting symbolic motifs are an important legacy that has survived from a long past to the present. Hand-woven regions and centers within the Anatolian identity constitute the focus of our "symbolic meanings and expressions" journey. The historical process in this adventure has brought us to the Niğde Region, which is an important geography in the middle of Anatolia with traditional hand weaving. The symbolic meanings of the motifs we can identify in Niğde Carpets have been tried to be learned from the local people and from various sources. Hand-woven fabrics that contain these symbolic expressions are in the region; Carpet markets in districts, towns, villages, mosques, merchants, weavers, museums, etc. was included in the field research.
